hey guys, cassie here!
i thought i would write a little post to share some bits about my latest music video for 'moon shoes', a.k.a. the title track from my recent ep. i hope you are all enjoying it so far...
so, onto the video itself.
i wanted to create a video that was somewhat outside the norm of what people expect in a music video: fancy lighting, expensive clothing and far fetched locations. instead, i wanted this music video to have a more quirky, relaxed feel. i wanted the music video to be in essence a reflection of the genre of music i create, which i would describe to be organic, fluid and gentle.

the song itself, Moon Shoes, is detailing how the outside world expects everyone to conform to a certain standard, and that the media tells everyone how to act, making people unsure about how they’re supposed to feel or do in certain situations. the aim for this project was to create something that wasn't perfect and didn't make complete sense, or have one explicit meaning.

i knew the locations i definitely wanted to include almost instantaneously: outside surrounded by greenery, inside a projector room with stars and planets, and i also wanted a plain coloured background, too. the variety and mishmash of textures, lighting levels and colours really appealed and made it unique.

for clothing, i had the idea of being very casually dressed, stripping back to minimal makeup in order to present myself as honestly as possible. i don't need expensive layers of clothing and makeup to be socially acceptable. i wanted to put that message out to the audience: you are simply perfect as you are.

the way i wanted this video to be laid out was very simplistic in feel. i wanted this video to look natural and homemade, so that i could reiterate my relation to the audience in that i am a person, and i have as much importance and deserve as much respect as anyone else. i LOVED the idea of adding in glitches and distortion effects to the final cut, which in my mind represented the fact that society's ideas on how we should act and feel are slowly deteriorating as more people are becoming more confident with being themselves and being their own person. also, who doesn't love a good special effect? i know i do!
after drafting, filming, reviewing, filtering and compiling ALL of the clips we shot, we finally produced a music video that i am very, very proud of. this song has a big place in my heart, and i hope when you watch this video, and even just listen to the song, you put on your own 'moon shoes', and discover the hidden messages behind simple lines and visualize the pictures painted.
if you wanna go and watch my new music video, it's on the home page!
i'll see you around,
C x
P.S. here are a few bloopers that didn't make it to the gallery. enjoy!
